Connection of stand-alone option units

The inverter accepts a variety of stand-alone option units as required.
Incorrect connection will cause inverter damage or accident. Connect and operate the option unit
carefully in accordance with the corresponding option unit manual.
2.10.1

Connection of the brake resistor

● If a motor driven by an inverter is being rotated from a load and rapid deceleration is necessary, an
external brake resistor can be mounted. The brake resistor can be connected to terminals P/+(P3)
and PR. (For the locations of terminal P/+(P3) and PR, refer to the terminal block layout (page 2-34).
● For FR-A820-00490(7.5K) or lower and FR-A840-00250(7.5K) or lower, the plug-in brake resistor is
connected across terminals P/+ and PX.
When the plug-in brake resistor does not have enough thermal capability for high-duty operation,
install an external brake resistor. At this time, remove the jumper from across terminals PR and PX
and connect the brake resistor across terminals P/+ and PR. (For the locations of terminal P/+ and
PR, refer to the terminal block layout (page 2-34).)
Removing jumpers across terminals PR and PX disables the plug-in brake resistor (power is not
supplied). The plug-in brake resistor can be left connected to the inverter, and so is the plug-in
brake resistor's lead wire connected to the terminal.
