Installing and Operating the Passport 5430 Multiservice Access Switch

Attaching the Antistatic Wrist Strap

Nortel Networks ships the Passport 5430 with an antistatic wrist strap. The
antistatic wrist strap directs the discharge of static electricity from your body to
the chassis of the switch, thereby avoiding discharge to, and possible damage of,
sensitive electronic components.
You must wear an antistatic wrist strap on your arm whenever you remove, install,
and handle the system processor card, expansion cards, adapter modules, PMC
modules, or power supplies.
Caution: Electrostatic discharge can damage hardware. Follow the procedure
in this section to protect your equipment from damage.
