Activate ESP as soon as the situations de-
scribed above no longer apply. ESP
otherwise not be able to stabilise the vehicle
if the vehicle starts to skid or when a wheel
is spinning.
When you deactivate ESP ® :
ESP ® no longer improves driving stabil-
ity
the engine's torque is then no longer
limited and the drive wheels could spin.
This results in a cutting action of the
spinning wheels for better grip.

If ESP is deactivated and one or more of
the wheels are spinning, the v warning lamp
in the instrument cluster flashes. ESP
then stabilise the vehicle.

The v warning lamp in the instru-
ment cluster comes on or goes out.

If the v warning lamp in the instrument
cluster lights up continuously when the en-
gine is running, ESP
®
does not
or is unavailable due to a malfunction. The
risk of your vehicle skidding is then in-
creased in certain situations.
Always adapt your driving style to suit the
prevailing road and weather conditions.
Electronic brake-power distribution
(EBV)
EBV monitors and controls the brake pres-
sure at the rear wheels to improve driving
stability when braking.

If EBV is faulty, the braking system remains
available with full brake boosting effect.
However, the wheels could lock, for in-
®
stance, in the event of a full brake applica-
tion. You could lose control of the vehicle
and cause an accident. Adapt your driving
style to the change in handling characteris-
tics.

ADAPTIVE BRAKE

ADAPTIVE BRAKE improves braking safety
and enhances braking comfort. In addition
to the braking function, ADAPTIVE BRAKE
®
has been deactivated
also offers the HOLD convenience function
( page 325).
