Possible cause/consequence
The driver's door is opened and the seat
belt is not inserted in the buckle.
The engine is not running.
The battery voltage is insufficient.
The system has overheated.
The bonnet is open.
Transmission position R has been se-
lected and the boot lid is open.
HOLD cannot be activated due to a mal-
function.
HOLD has been deactivated because
the vehicle is skidding.
The engine air cleaner needs to be re-
placed.
The trailer tow hitch is not correctly en-
gaged.

Possible solution
Fasten the driver's seat belt.
Start the engine.
Switch off all consumers that are not re-
quired.
Wait until the battery voltage has returned
to normal.
Wait until the system has cooled down.
Close the bonnet.
Close the boot lid.
Have HOLD checked at a qualified special-
ist workshop.
Reactivate HOLD later.
Have the air cleaner replaced at a qualified
specialist workshop.
Pull over safely to the edge of the carriage-
way.
Engage the ball coupling in the end posi-
tion.
