Coaxial cable:
Connecting cable between LNB and satellite receiver,
for transmitting the received signals and for supplying
power to the LNBs.
LNB/LNC (Low Noise Block/Converter):
Receiving unit at the focus of the parabolic reflector,
converts the frequency range of the satellite in the
intermediate frequency of the receiver.
LOF:
Local oscillator frequency; specified in MHz or GHz;
different depending upon LNB and the frequency
range received
Receiving frequency of the receiver = transmission
frequency of the satellite – LOF
Modulation with 22 KHz:
Along with the 14/28 volt switchover helps in the
switchover between 2 LNBs. In universal-LNB for
switching in the high-range.
Parabolic reflector:
Parabolic shaped reflector made of metal or coated
plastic for bundling at a focus the electromagnetic
waves transmitted by the satellite.
Polarisation level:
For a better utilisation of the available frequency range
the satellites transmit the adjacent channels with opposite
polarisation (horizontal and vertical or left- and right-
handed). For receiving both the polarisation levels two
single LNBs or one V/H-LNB is needed.
Receiver: see satellite receiver
Satellite:
Name of the satellite, mostly with name and position
on the orbit,
ASTRA
19° East
EUTELSAT
13° East
Satellite receiver:
The signals received and converted by LNB cannot be
processed by the television set. They are prepared in the
satellite receiver such that audio and video signals (AV)
are present at its outputs, which are passed on to the TV.
SCART:
Plug connector at television sets, video recorders,
satellite receivers and other devices for entertainment
electronics for transmitting audio (sound) and video
(image) signals (AV).
