9 Technical terms

Antenna cable:
Connecting cable between the modulator of the satellite
receiver and the antenna input of the television, as an
alternative, if a SCART-socket is not available.
External unit:
Name for the system mounted in the open, comprising of
parabolic/offset reflector and one or more LNBs, for
receiving one or more satellites.
AV: see SCART data compression/MPEG1/MPEG2:
The transmission of the current television standard
(625 rows and 50 Hz image refresh rate) results in a
data quantity of 216 MBit/s.
This would require bandwidths, which are available neither
terrestrially nor in satellites. For this reason, the data
quantity is reduced through data reduction. For Europe,
MPEG-2 has been laid down as the worldwide standard for
data compression. MPEG2 is an extension of MPEG1.
De-emphasis:
Adjustment of the audio frequencies to the transmission
signal, is defined by the transmission parameters of the
satellite.
DiSEqC:
Digital Satellite Equipment Control: A digital Control signal
for controlling the DiSEqC-enabled components of the
external unit via the antenna line. A example of how a
system made of DiSEqC-components can look like is given
on page 19.
DVB:
Digital Video Broadcasting: A digital, universal
transmission technique, for image, graphics, sound and text
i.e. for data in every possible form and in every possible,
appropriate quality.
Frequency:
Physical quantity, specifies the number of vibrations per
second, unit is Hertz (Hz).
Frequency range:
a) Satellite/LNB:
11 GHz range from 10.70 GHz – 11.70 GHz, 12 GHz range
from 11.70 GHz – 12.75 GHz
b) Receiver: Intermediate frequency or 1.ZF 950 till 2150
MHz.
