Configuring the server

This section contains information about configuring the server and installing the
operating system.
I
Make sure that the energy saving functions are disabled in the BIOS Setup
during server operation.
5.3.1

Hard disk drive write cache

By default, the hard disk drive write cache is deactivated. This means that not
every change to data in the main memory is written to disk immediately. This
increases the data flow during write operations to the hard disk.
V
CAUTION!
If the hard disk drive write cache is active, data can be lost if there is a
power failure.
You can change this default setting.
Using the SATA Software RAID
I
The hard disk drive write cache must always have the same setting for
all connected hard disk drives.
Ê Press CTRL + M when booting the server (POST).
Ê Select Objects.
Ê Select Adapter.
Ê Select Adapter 0 <bus=00, dev=1F>.
Ê Select Write Cache = On.
Ê Press any key to acknowledge the warning message.
Ê Press the ESC key.
Further information about configuration can be found in the "Embedded SATA
Software RAID for ICH7R User's Guide" (see also
RX100 S4
Operating manual
