Notes on Installation

The entire solar heating system
H
should be installed in accordance with
the accepted rules of technology,
observing all relevant accident
prevention regulations.
Employ suitable safety measures to
H
prevent falls, falling objects and roof
damage due to insufficient load
bearing capacity, e.g. by means of
scaffolding, ladders, cable ties etc.
The collectors must be securely
H
mounted so that the mountings can
withstand intense wind conditions.
CAUTION
Use only Viessmann supplied
mounting clips and mounting
hardware. Never drill or screw
directly into collector side frames.
Use only stainless steel screws and
H
bolts when fastening mounting
brackets or frames.

Collector Location

Please refer to the Vitosol System Design Guidelines, for detailed information on the optimum alignment and
inclination of solar collectors.
Although the glass collectors surfaces
H
are hail-proof, Viessmann
recommends users to include storm
coverage in their building insurance.
Our warranty does not cover storm
related damage.
The collectors should, as far as
H
possible, be oriented towards the
south. Solar system performance
drops off significantly if collectors
face more than 50° off south.
The collectors should be mounted
H
level, or with a slight ascending slope
(approx. ½" / 10mm) towards the
high point of the piping, so that
complete venting is assured.
An air vent valve (c/w shut-off valve)
H
should be installed at the highest
point of the solar heating system.
CAUTION
When using the 200-T collectors, the
installation of a heat rejection circuit
is strongly recommended for any
DHW-space heating system or any
other application with intermittent
loads. Failure to do so can lead to
solar fluid and collector damage
during stagnation.
Optimum alignment and inclination
The solar collector provides the highest
solar yield over an annual average when
facing south with an inclination of
approx. 30º to 45º to the horizontal
plane.
General Information
Filling the solar heating system with
H
Viessmann heat transfer fluid
"Tyfocor-HTL" is highly
recommended. Tyfocor-HTL is
supplied pre-mixed and water must
not be added.
Other heat transfer fluids may be
suitable if they have the same
temperature range -35°F to 170°F
(-31°C to 77°C) and are non-toxic.
CAUTION
Pool water or potable water cannot
be pumped directly through the
Vitosol collectors. Damage to
collectors caused by corrosion, freeze
damage, or scaling will void warranty.
The piping inside and outside the
H
building should be insulated to avoid
heat loss. Use only high temperature
resistant pipe insulation.
CAUTION
1. Gloves and eye protection must be
used when handling glass tubes.
2. Avoid scratching or sudden shock
to tubes.
3. Unpack and install tubes only after
the manifold unit has been
installed and all the pipe work has
been completed.
4. The Vitosol 200-T tubes should
under no circumstances be
exposed to the sun for extended
periods (max. one day) if the
system has not been filled.
Covering collectors is
recommended until system is fully
operational.
However, the installation of a solar
heating system is still viable even when
the installation deviates quite
significantly from the above
(south-westerly to south-easterly
alignment, 25º to 65º inclination).
