Testing the Bridge Only

You can verify that the bridge is operational without having to attach it to the LANs by using
loopback connectors on the network ports. See appendix A, "Cables and Connectors", for
information on the required connectors.
To test the bridge by itself:
1. Unplug the bridge's power cord from the power source.
2. Attach the loopback connectors to one of the port 1 connectors (AUI or BNC), to the
port 2 AUI connector, and to the console port.
3. Plug the power cord back into the power source and the bridge will execute its
power-on self-test.
4. See table 5-1 to interpret the LED pattern when the power-on self-test completes
(approximately 30 seconds – the Self-test LED goes out).
If necessary to verify that both port 1 connectors are functioning properly, rerun the test using
the loopback connector on the other port 1 connector. Only one port 1 connector should be
used at any time.
