Basic Troubleshooting Tips
Make sure the bridge is plugged in and that cable connections are secure.
Note that during self-test and initialization, the bridge executes external loopback tests.
The bridge will not pass self-test until viable networks or loopback connectors are
attached to the ports. These connections should be made before the bridge is plugged
in to a power source.
If the ThinLAN BNC connector is being used as the Port 1 connection, make sure the
connector is properly terminated (both sides have properly terminated cables attached,
or one side has a terminated cable, and the other side has a 50-ohm terminator). See
"Port Connections" in chapter 2 of this manual.
Check the LEDs. The LEDs are described in chapter 1 under "Back of the Bridge."
LED patterns that indicate a bridge or network fault are shown in tables 5-1 and 5-2
below.
If you suspect a burned-out LED, press and hold the Reset button on the back of the
bridge. All the LEDs (except Transmit and Receive) should stay ON until you release
the Reset button. (Note that the bridge will then go through a self-test and reset.)
