POSSIBLE PROBLEMS/SOLUTIONS
Some of the more common problems with the remote-
battery switch could be:
1. Remote battery switch in "auto" po-
sition but engine will not crank over-
The remote battery switch is sensed to be
in the "off " position because it was not
properly reset to the "auto" position. Re-
position the remote battery switch to the "auto" position
by switching it to the "off " position fi rst, then back to the
"auto" position.
2. Red LED light not visible at remote battery switch;
engine will not crank over- By-pass the relay by pulling
the wire off the 87A relay terminal and touch it to the 87
terminal. Have someone crank the engine at this point
(Stand clear of any moving engine parts). If the engine
cranks contact your closest Regal yacht dealer for replace-
ment parts. The relay is defective causing an open ground
circuit.
3. Red LED light visible and remote battery switch
in "auto" position; engine will not crank over- Make
sure the universal battery switch on the battery manage-
ment panel is "on" to provide power to the helm. Check
the appropriate battery connections for corrosion and
tightness. Check battery with volt meter as described ear-
lier and a hydrometer if needed. If battery is determined
to be weak press the battery parallel switch to crank the
engine over or start the generator which will initiate charg-
ing of the weak battery.
RELAY
The previous management system drawing shows a relay
located between each remote battery switch and the ap-
propriate universal "ON-OFF" battery switch at the bat-
tery management panel. The purpose of the relay is to
provide a complete circuit for the remote battery switch.
When the port or starboard universal battery switch on
the battery management panel is activated the remote bat-
tery switch circuit is closed allowing the appropriate en-
gine to be started at the helm. The relay closes when the
ON-OFF universal battery switch is energized.
In theory, the relay switches "on" the ground circuit of
the electric battery switch not the "hot" side.
POSSIBLE PROBLEMS/SOLUTIONS
1. The engine does not crank over. Re-
lay is defective causing an open ground
circuit- By-pass the relay by pulling the
wire off the 87A relay terminal and touch
to the 87 terminal. Have someone crank
the engine at this point (Stand clear of any moving engine
parts). If the engine cranks contact your closest Regal
yacht dealer for replacement parts.
2. The engine does not crank over. Check relay for cor-
rosion or loose connection.
3. The engine will not crank over. If the battey remote
switch feature is not working set the manual override
switch to the "on" position and start the engine.
