Volvo-Checking IPS Serpentine Belt
Note: Stop the engine before attempting to do any
maintenance work.
Check the belt tension on a regular basis. If the belt is
too loose slippage can result. On the other hand an over
tight belt can cause bearing damage. Adjust the belt after
the engine is warm. Remove the ignition key(s)s from the
key switch(es).
1. Loosen the bolts (1) from the tensioning roller bracket.
Replace the belt if needed.
2. Tension the belt to a torque of 37 ft. lbs. on the
tensioning roller square fi tting (2). Secure the tensioning
roller with the bolts (1). Tighten the bolts to 37 ft. lbs.
Recheck the bolts by loosening them when the engine is
warm and repeat the belt adjustment procedure.

Volvo IPS-Checking Compressor Oil
Turn the dipstick counterclockwise until free, then pull
it out. Wipe the dipstick with a clean, soft cloth. Turn the
dipstick screw clockwise until it bottoms out. The remove
it again.
Check to ensure the oil is between the markings. If the
dipstick is not fully screwed down the oil level will be
slightly above the MIN marking which is the correct oil
level. Top off the oil as required. Use the dipstick to fi ll.
Use Volvo Penta part # 1141641-9 for the compressor.
Total volume is .2 US pint.
Volvo IPS-Changing Compressor Oil
To change the compressor oil run the engineuntil it reaches
normal operating temperature. Remove the plug and let
the oil run out. Reinstall the plug and fi ll with oil to the
correct level.
