19. Observation of engine speed and coolant temperature

To determine the best possible transmission ratio, the use of a rev-counter is required for
observation of the speed limits.
To warrant engine operation within temperature limits of the coolant a thermo-sensor for
observation of the coolant temperature is required.
Note: ROTAX offers as an accessory the following combination indicating instrument:
inductive rev-counter (1, 2), ROTAX P/N 265680
thermosensor (4) ROTAX P/N 265690
Note: This combination instrument is operating via an integrated re-chargeable battery. At
engine start the readings of the connected sensors (inductive pick-up for engine
speed (r.p.m.) and thermosensor for coolant temperature (
The display will remain on for 5 seconds after engine stop.
Note: The re-chargeable battery integrated in the instrument has an operating life span of
max. 700 hours or at least 10 years at resting mode.

this case the instrument has to be renewed.
Attention: Pay attention to the manufacturer's notes
about connections and operation of the
instrument.
Attention: Use the original spark plug connector of 5
k resistance, so that the operation of the
rev-counter is not impaired.
Thread the induction cable (2) through the
holes in connection lug on the instrument .
Attach the instrument (1) with cable ties or
adhesive tape on the steering wheel.
Attention: Use a vibration damping pad between the
instrument and steering wheel.
Wind at least three turns of the inductive
cable (2) around the ignition cable (3)
between the ignition coil and spark plug
connector and secure it with the clip on the
ignition cable.
Secure induction cable with cable ties on the chassis.
Attention: The induction cable must be free of tensile stress; stress could damage the cable or
could result in malfunction of the cable and the instrument.
Remove the plug screw from the cylinder head cover.
Apply ERGO 4052 on thread of thermo-sensor (4).
