Chapter 5 Wheels, Tires & Brakes
BRAKE FLUID FILLING/BLEEDING
Fill the reservoir with DOT-3 or DOT-4 brake fluid
from a sealed container.
CAUTION
◦ Do not mix different types of fluid. They are not
compatible.
Connect a commercially available brake bleeder
to the bleed valve.
Pump the brake bleeder and loosen the bleed
valve.
Bleeding front wheel first by bleeding front brake
shunt then left and right brake caliper. After
completed bleeding front wheels calipers, then
bleeding the rear brake shunt and caliper.
Add fluid when the fluid level in the master
cylinder reservoir is low.
NOTE
◦ Check the fluid level often while bleeding the
brakes to prevent air from being pumped into
the system.
◦ When using a brake bleeding tool, follow the
manufacture's operating instruction.
◦ If air is entering the bleeder from around the
bleed valve threads, seal the threads with
Teflon tape.
Repeat the above procedures until air bubbles
do not appear in the plastic hose.
Close the bleed valve and operate the brake
lever. If it feels spongy, bleed the system by
performing BLEEDING procedure.
