shutdown vlan
Use the shutdown vlan global configuration command to shut down (suspend) local traffic on the
specified VLAN. Use the no form of this command to restart local traffic on the VLAN.

Usage Guidelines
The shutdown vlan command does not change the VLAN information in the VTP database. It shuts
down traffic locally, but the switch still advertises VTP information.
Examples
This example shows how to shutdown traffic on VLAN 2:
Switch(config)# shutdown vlan 2
You can verify your setting by entering the show vlan privileged EXEC command.

shutdown vlan vlan-id
no shutdown vlan vlan-id
ID of the VLAN to be locally shut down. Valid IDs are from 2 to 1001. VLANs
defined as default VLANs under the VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP), as well as
extended-range VLANs (greater than 1005) cannot be shut down. The default
VLANs are 1 and 1002 to 1005. Do not enter leading zeros.
Modification
This command was first introduced.
Description
Shuts down local traffic on the VLAN when in config-VLAN mode (accessed by the
vlan vlan-id global configuration command).
Enables config-vlan mode.
Enters VLAN configuration mode.
