Floor Protection requirements;
raised hearth 6" (152 mm) or higher-
The depth of the masonry hearth must measure a
minimum of 12.5 inches (318 mm) from the face of
the fireplace opening, to support the insert body.
Depending on the overall depth of the hearth, additional
floor protection may be necessary. If the depth of the
hearth measures 25.5 inches (648 mm) or more, from the
fireplace facing, no additional floor protection is needed. If
the hearth depth is less than 25.5 inches (648 mm), floor
protection must be installed.
Floor protection in front of the raised hearth must be a
minimum 3/8" (9.5 mm) of 0.84k material. An R value of
0.45 or higher is also acceptable. The standards call for
floor protection to extend a minimum of 18 inches (457
mm) in front of the appliance door opening, and 8 inches
(200 mm) to each side.
