Network time
Select Date and Time from the System section of the main menu, then the NTP Time
Server tab.
Check the Enabled box under the NTP Time Server heading and click Submit. Local
hosts can now synchronize their clocks to the SnapGear unit's by specifying the
SnapGear unit's IP address as their network time server.
In Windows XP, this setting is available under Start (> Settings) > Control Panel > Date
and Time > Internet Time.
Synchronizing with an NTP server
Note
When synchronizing with an NTP server, the date and time is displayed in UTC. To
display local time, you must set the Locality appropriately.
The SnapGear unit can synchronize its system time with a remote time server using the
network time protocol (NTP). Adding an NTP server ensures that the SnapGear unit's
clock is accurate soon after the Internet connection is established.
Select Date and Time from the System section of the main menu, then the NTP Time
Server tab.
Enter the IP Address of the NTP server. Select Server from the Type drop down box.
Click Add.
More than one NTP server may be added. The SG considers the response from each
server and uses provisions in the network time protocol to determine the most accurate
date and time.
Adding an NTP peer
While NTP servers only offer the time to NTP clients, NTP peers both offer the time and
accept time updates from each other. A possible suitable NTP peer for the SnapGear
unit is another NTP server on your local network.
