Brakes

The effectiveness of the brakes is a n
important factor for traffic safety.
In the interest of effectiv eness, do not
brake unnecessarily hard d uring the first
120 miles (200 km) after new d isc b ra ke
pads have been fitted .
Wear of the brake linings must not exceed
a certain limit. Regular maintenance as
detailed in the Service Book let is therefore
of the utmost importance for traffic safety.

Foot brake

The braking system comprises two
separate, brak e circuits. If one bra ke circuit
should fail, the v ehicle c an still be stopped
with the second remaining circuit. If this
ha ppens, the brake peda l must be fully
depressed with greater peda l pressure. The
distance required for braking will b e
greater. Consult a workshop before
continuing to drive. We recommend that
you consult a Vauxhall Approved Rep airer.
In order to utilise the full pedal travel -
particularly in the ev ent of a b ra ke circ uit
fault - there must be no m ats in the area of
the peda ls.
With the engine stop ped the servo
assistance is discontinued after the brak e
pedal has been depressed once or twice.
The b ra king action w ill not be reduced but
increa sed foot pressure will be necessary.
Take extra care when the vehicle is being
towed.
C heck the brake lamps before starting out
on a journey . Shortly after the start of each
journey the brake sy stem should be tested
at low speed for its effectiveness, especially
if the brakes are wet, e.g. a fter washing
y our v ehicle.
The brake fluid level should be checked
regula rly , see page 82.
