Three-stage re straint system
The system c om prises
z Three-point seat belts.
z Seat belt tensioners.
z Airbag system for driver.
These stages are activated in sequence
depending on the seriousness of the
accident:
z The automa tic seat belt locking devices
prevent the belt strap from being pulled
out and thus ensure that the v ehicle
occupants are retained in their seats.
z The seat belts are pulled up. As a result,
the seat belts are instantaneously
tightened and the occupants are mad e
aware of the deceleration of the v ehicle
at a very early sta ge. This reduces stress
placed on the body.
z The airb ag system is ad ditionally
triggered in the ev ent of a serious
accident involving a frontal impact and
forms a safety cushion for the driver.
The airbag system serv es to supplem ent
the three-point sea t belts. The seat belts
must therefore always be worn.
Be sure to read the descriptions of all the
restraint systems on the following pa ges!
