Testing, Adjusting, and Troubleshooting
To verify bandwidth
Connect the equipment.

Connect the signal generator to the input of the power splitter.

Connect the power sensor to one output of the power splitter, and

connect channel 1 of the oscilloscope to the other power splitter
output. Put a 50- feedthrough at the input of the oscilloscope.
Channel 1 is labeled "1" on HP 54645A and "A1" on HP 54645D.
Set up the oscilloscope.

Set the time base to 500 ns/div.

Set the Volts/Div for channel 1 to 200 mV/div.

Toggle the # Average softkey to select 8 averages.

Set the signal generator for 1 MHz at about +11.6 dBm.

Notice that the signal on the display is about 5 cycles and six divisions of
amplitude.

Wait a few seconds for the measurement to settle (averaging is complete),
then note the V
reading from the bottom of the display.

Set the calibration factor percent of the power meter to the 1 MHz

value from the calibration chart on the probe, then press dB (REF)
on the power meter to set a 0 dB reference.
Change the frequency of the signal generator to 100 MHz.

Set the calibration factor of the power meter to the 100 MHz percent

value from the chart on the probe (interpolate the value between two
frequencies, if necessary).
Adjust the amplitude of the signal generator for a power reading as close as
possible to 0.0 dB (REL). Power meter reading = ______ dB.
