Installing PCNS on the Express5800/320Ma System

1. To ensure that PowerChute Network Shutdown (PCNS) registers the correct LAN
connection (that is, the one that is registered with the UPS), do the following:
a. Click Start, point to Control Panel, and click Network Connections.
b. In the menu bar, click Advanced, and then click Advanced Settings.
c. Using the arrow buttons, move the LAN connection that will be registered with
the UPS to the top of the list. Click OK.
2. Download PCNS from the APC Web site:
a. Go to the
b. Click Support and then click Software and Firmware.
c. Under Filter by, select PowerChute Network Shutdown, and then click Free
Download.
d. Download PowerChute Network Shutdown v2.x.x for Windows
XP/2000/NT.
You are prompted to register before you can download the software.
3. When the download is complete, start the installation program by double-clicking
the icon for the file you downloaded in step 2.
4. When the About screen appears, click Next.
5. Click I Agree to accept the licensing agreement.
6. Click Next to accept the default installation directory.
7. On the Choose Install Type page, click Typical Install.
8. On the Initial Configuration page, enter the IP address of the UPS management
card that is attached to the UPS in the Management Card IP field. Accept the
default port configurations (80 for the Management Card Port # and 3052 for the
PowerChute HTTP Port #). Click Next.
9. On the Security Configuration page, enter the administrator user name,
password, and authentication phrase that match the settings on the UPS
management card. If you have not changed the default settings in the UPS
management card, click Next. Otherwise, enter the correct information.
10. Wait while the software registers with the UPS management card. If you see a
message that the UPS communicated successfully, click Next.

If your system is running the Japanese version of the
Windows Server operating system, you cannot install the
English version of the PCNS Release 2.2.1 software. You
must install the Japanese version of the PCNS software.
