Breaking the Mirror of the System Volume

Checklist: Performing the Express5800/320Ma Upgrade
Make sure you have the following media available:
ExpressBuilder CD (1 of 2)
ExpressBuilder CD (2 of 2)
Upgrade the system software and documentation. See
Express5800/320Ma Software Upgrade" on page
Verify that the software upgraded successfully. See
Upgraded Successfully" on page
Complete the upgrade. See

Breaking the Mirror of the System Volume

If you are using volume mirroring on the system volume, break the mirror before you
start the upgrade.
1. Open Windows Disk Management:
a. Right-click My Computer and then click Manage.
b. Expand Computer Management and .
c. Click Disk Management.
2. Verify that the volumes on the system disk and its mirror are healthy, dynamic,
mirrored volumes.
3. Right-click one of the volume copies in the mirrored system volume and note its
Disk Name, such as Disk 1.
4. Click Break Mirrored Volume. When you are asked to confirm that you want to
break the mirrored volume, click Yes.
5. Exit from the disk-management tool.

N O T E
If you view disks with a disk-management tool during the
upgrade procedure, disk slot assignments sometimes
appear to change. This occurs because the
disk-management tools assign volume names based on
the order in which disks are inserted. Therefore, if you
remove a disk and then reinstall it later in the upgrade
procedure, it may not have the same slot assignment as it
had earlier. If you want to ensure that a disk's logical name
corresponds to a physical slot number, reboot the system
when all disks are installed.
