Checklist: Preparing for an Express5800/320Ma Upgrade
Install Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1). The Express5800/320Ma
Upgrade Readiness Test for the upgrade procedure checks to make sure that SP1
is installed, and the upgrade cannot proceed if SP1 is not installed.
Make sure the system is running Express5800/320Ma Release 4.0.0 or later.
Make sure you have a backup boot disk, in case you want to revert to the previous
version of Express5800/320Ma.
If you do not have a backup boot disk, do one or both of the following:
If you use volume mirroring, break the mirror on the system disk. See
the Mirror of the System Volume" on page 7-4
disk-management tool.
If you use Rapid Disk Resync (RDR) to mirror the system disk, deport one of
the system disks as described in
page
3-13.
Upgrade the VTM and BMC firmware and the BIOS to the versions on the
Express5800/320Ma ExpressBuilder CD (1 of 2).
describes how to upgrade firmware.
N O T E
After you upgrade the BIOS, but before you have
upgraded the Express5800/320Ma Software, the Device
Manager may indicate an unknown device with an
warning symbol. You can safely ignore this warning. The
problem is resolved when the appropriate video driver is
installed with the Express5800/320Ma Software upgrade.
If you are using volume mirroring on the system volume, break the mirror. See
"Breaking the Mirror of the System Volume" on page
If the system contains VTMs, use ftSMC to verify that the VTMs are online and
running in duplex mode: In ftSMC, do the following:
a. Expand ftServer (Local), ftServer I/O Enclosures, I/O Enclosure - 10.
b. Click VTM Adapter - 3 or VTM Adapter - 4. In the details pane, make sure the
value next to OpState:State is Duplex.
Stop any virus-checking software.
Clear application and system event logs, letting Windows save the logs, so that
they contain only new events related to the upgrade. To open Event Viewer and
clear the logs, click Start, point to Control Panel and Administrative Tools, and
click Event Viewer. Right-click each listed log file and click Clear all Events.
