Installing DIMMs

There are 24 DIMM slots located on the left side of the BL870c system board. The DIMM slots are
located on a removable memory mezzanine board. These DIMM slots are designated in 6 ordered
quads: 0A – 0D, 1A – 1D, 2A – 2D, 3A – 3D, 4A – 4D, and 5A – 5D. This is also the install
order. DIMM sizes within each quad must match.
For DIMM slot locations, see
The server blade uses a minimum of 4 GB of memory (four 1-GB DIMMs), and a maximum of 96
GB of memory (24 4-GB DIMMs). If you purchased additional memory, use these procedures to
install more memory into your server blade.
Install DIMMs from highest capacity to lowest capacity (for example, install the 4-GB DIMMs first,
then the 2-GB DIMMs, then the 1-GB DIMMs).
The memory subsystem supports chip spare functionality. The DIMM quads must be identical to
enable chip sparing. If a multibit error occurs on an SDRAM, chip sparing enables that SDRAM
to be bypassed (logically replaced) on that DIMM.
To enable chip sparing functionality, use only HP DIMMs with the same part number .
Following is the install order for the DIMM quads:
1.
Install slots 0A through 0D.
2.
Install slots 1A through 1D.
3.
Install slots 2A through 2D.
4.
Install slots 3A through 3D.
5.
Install slots 4A through 4D.
6.
Install slots 5A through 5D.
