Setting Monitoring Preferences

You can adjust the monitoring interval (the length of time
between status information updates for the selected printer)
and turn on the background monitoring feature in the
Monitoring Preferences dialog box. To open the Monitoring
Preferences dialog box, see "Turning on background
monitoring" on the next page.
When you turn on the background monitoring feature in the
Monitoring Preferences dialog box, the Status Monitor checks
the selected printer status "in the background" whenever you
are using your computer (even if an application is running).
The Status Monitor informs you of the printer status by
displaying the Status Alert dialog box, shown below, in the
lower right-hand corner of your computer screen. The Status
Alert dialog box contains short messages describing printer
status, and provides a Details button that allows you to open
the Printer Status window for a selected printer.
