Table D-6: System Cannot Load SmartStart
Possible Cause
The CD-ROM drive is not installed properly.
The CD-ROM drive cable is not connected
properly.
The CD-ROM drive is not set as a bootable
device.
The diskette in the diskette drive is preventing
the system from loading.
Existing software is causing conflict.
IMPORTANT: Clearing NVRAM removes user data from the boot drives. To clear NVRAM and
erase the boot drives, select the Advanced Options menu in RBSU, and then select Erase
NVRAM/Boot Space Disk.

Be sure the CD-ROM drive is installed
properly.
Be sure the CD-ROM is cabled to the back
of the CD-ROM drive and the system
board.
Press the F9 key to run the ROM-Based
Setup Utility (RBSU).
Set defaults and exit the utility.
Rerun RBSU to check the system
configuration.
Clear the NVRAM and boot drives in
RBSU.
Reinstall the operating system.
