Solving Modem Problems
Problem
No dial tone, with or
without NO DIAL
TONE message.
Modem sounds are
not audible

Possible Cause
The modem or
modem COM port is
disabled.
The modem is not
responding to
commands from the
computer keyboard.
Modem speaker is
turned off.
System sound is
muted or turned
down.
Solution
Refer to Chapter 6
"Using an Internal
Modem."
1. At the command line
in terminal mode, type
AT, then press Enter.
n If the modem
displays OK, the
modem and
computer are
working together.
n
If the modem
displays ERROR,
or does not
respond, restart the
computer and
repeat steps 1
and 2.
2. Type ATDT and listen
for a dial tone.
3. Press any key to hang
up the modem.
At the command line in
terminal mode, type
ATM1.
Press the FN+F5
hotkeys, then adjust the
volume.
