Paper and specialty media guide Paper guidelines Paper characteristics The following paper characteristics affect print quality and reliability. Consider these characteristics when evaluating new paper stock. Weight The printer can automatically feed paper weights from 60 to 220 g/m (16 to 58 lb bond) grain long. Paper lighter than 60 g/m (16 lb) might not be stiff enough to feed properly, causing jams.
Fiber content Most high-quality xerographic paper is made from 100% chemically treated pulped wood. This content provides the paper with a high degree of stability resulting in fewer paper feeding problems and better print quality. Paper containing fibers such as cotton can negatively affect paper handling. Unacceptable paper The following paper types are not recommended for use with the printer: •...
Lexmark concerns itself with the responsible use of paper in general based on life cycle assessments of its products. To gain a better understanding of the impact of printers on the environment, the company commissioned a number of life cycle assessments and found that paper was identified as the primary contributor (up to 80%) of carbon emissions caused throughout the entire life of a device (from design to end-of-life).
