ROMs, and enclosures.

R
RAID
Acronym for Redundant Array of Independent/Inexpensive
Disks. Coined in 1987 by researchers at the University of
California at Berkeley to describe a set of disk array
architectures that provide fault-tolerance and improved
performance.
RAID-0
An array where data is distributed, or striped, across the disks
in the array.
RAID-1 (mirrored)
An array which uses a single pair of disks. Both disks in the
pair contain the same data.
RAID 0/1 (mirrored)
Array which use from two to eight pairs of disks. Both disks in
each pair contain the same data.
RAID-5
Arrays which contain redundant information in the form of
parity data. The parity data is distributed across all the disks in
the array and occupies the equivalent capacity of about one
disk. User data is interspersed with this parity data.
reconstruction
The regeneration and writing onto one or more replacement
disks of all of the data from a failed disk in redundant RAID
array. Reconstruction is usually performed in the background,
while applications are accessing data in the array.
