Administering the WMIC

This document describes how to administer the Cisco Wireless Mobile Interface (WMIC).

Configuring a System Name and Prompt

You configure the system name on the WMIC to identify it. A "greater than" symbol (>) is appended.
The prompt is updated whenever the system name changes, unless you manually configure the prompt
by using the prompt command in global configuration mode.

Configuring a System Name
To manually configure a system name, follow these steps, beginning in privileged EXEC mode:

hostname name
Step 3

show running-config
Step 5
copy running-config startup-config
When you set the system name, it is also used as the system prompt.

Purpose
Enters global configuration mode.
Manually configure a system name.
The name must follow the rules for ARPANET hostnames. They must start
with a letter, end with a letter or digit, and have as interior characters only
letters, digits, and hyphens. Names can be up to 63 characters.
Returns to privileged EXEC mode.
Verifies your entries.
(Optional) Saves your entries in the configuration file.
