Speech compressor
The IC-706 has a built-in, low distortion speech com-
pressor circuit. This circuit increases your average
talk power in SSB mode and is especially useful for
DX'ing when the receiving station is having difficulty
copying your signal.

© Select USB or LSB mode.
@ Select the ALC meter.
e Push [DISP] 1 or 2 times to select HH, if necessary.
«Push [MENU] one or more times to select f=, then
push [(F-3)HE T] one or more times to select "ALC."
@ Select the mic gain display in quick set mode. [MENU] [F-E]
e Push [DISP] for 2 sec.
«Push [MENU] one or more times to select G2 MIC

[COMP GAIN]
€ Adjust the mic gain.
*While transmitting at your normal voice level, the ALC
meter should read at about the middle of the ALC zone.
* Be sure the mic gain is in the range of 2 to 5.

e Push [MENU] one or more times to select lla.
© Push [(F-2): C15], then adjust [COMP GAIN] so that

o VOX operation
The VOX (Voice-operated Transmission) function
toggles between transmit and. receive with your
voice. This function provides an opportunity to input
log entries into your computer, etc., while operating.
(D Set [VOX GAIN] and [ANTI-VOX] on the transceiv-
er's side panel max. counterclockwise.
Q Select i+, then turn the VOX function ON.
*Push [DISP] 1 or 2 times when 5 or i3 appears.
«Push [MENU] one or more times to select t14.
e Push [(F-1)./L1«] to turn the function ON.
@ Select tU DELH in quick set mode.
*Push [DISP] for 2 sec. then push [MENU] one or more
times to select t3.

© Adjust the delay time as desired with the main dial
