  • Page 11 Introduction DocuColor 40 CP Color Server personal computers. After the DocuColor 40 CP and client workstations are set up, as described in this manual and in Getting Started, individual users can print to the DocuColor 40 CP as a high-performance color PostScript printer.

As the system administrator, you decide the level of network and software access that will be accessible to users.

  • Page 17 Before you proceed By default, no passwords are set on the DocuColor 40 CP. If you do not specif- ically set passwords, all users will have administrator privileges, which include access to important functions such as Setup (including setting passwords), calibration, and job control.

    Server Name Default server name Use this option to give the DocuColor 40 CP a name (up to 10 characters long). This is the name that will appear in the Chooser on an AppleTalk network. Do not use the device name (DocuColor) as the server name. Also, if you have multiple DocuColor 40 CP servers and give them the same name, a unique number is appended to the name that appears in the list of available servers.

The start page displays information about the DocuColor 40 CP, including the server name, current date and time, Printer Mode, amount of memory installed in the DocuColor 40 CP, last calibration date, network protocols enabled, and connections published.

    If your network requirements change, you can change Network Setup at any time. If the DocuColor 40 CP is configured to enable more than one protocol, it automati- cally switches to the correct protocol when it receives a print job. When the parallel port and one or two network ports are enabled, print jobs can be received over all of those ports at the same time.

During Network Setup, the DocuColor 40 CP queries the network for zones, servers, and server-based queues. If you perform Network Setup without a connected and functioning network, default settings are used that may not meet your needs.

    • Web Services Setup enables the http protocol and, therefore, use of the WebTools. PServer is a program in the DocuColor 40 CP that can service the Novell print queues assigned to the Novell print servers you have set up for printing to the DocuColor 40 CP.
  • Page 58 Windows. Enabling SMB allows the DocuColor 40 CP to be listed on the network so that Windows clients can print to a particular print connection (Hold, Print, or Direct) on the DocuColor 40 CP without any other networking software.

The default name is the same as the server name assigned in Server Setup (see page 2-8). Server Comments Server comments (optional) can contain information about the printer.

    Setup menu without making any changes. DocuColor 40 CP print connections In DocuColor 40 CP Printer Setup you decide how the DocuColor 40 CP manages print jobs by deciding which print connections should be “published” to users over the network.

    Jobs are transmitted to the DocuColor 40 CP Direct connection only when the DocuColor 40 CP is ready to print. They remain at the sending workstation until the DocuColor 40 CP is ready, and are processed as soon as a prior job is finished, before the next queued job is processed.
  • Page 72: Printer Setup Options

    This option enables users to print (or download) jobs to the Print queue. Jobs that are printed to the Print queue are spooled to the DocuColor 40 CP disk and printed on a first-in, first-out basis. Only queues published in the Printer Setup are available to remote users.

    CMYK simulation allows color correction to simulate printed output on a commercial press, so that the DocuColor 40 CP output can be used for proofing. The SWOP- Coated standard is used in the United States, DIC in Japan, and Euroscale in Europe.

    Clear Server Job Log Setup The Job Log is a record of all jobs processed or printed on the DocuColor 40 CP, whether they originate from a user workstation, a networked server, the DocuColor 40 CP, or a computer attached to the parallel port. The Job Log can be printed at any time from the Control Panel or WebSpooler.

    Use this option to specify whether to clear the Job Log after every 55 jobs. If you do not enable this option, and do not clear the Job Log from the DocuColor 40 CP or from a remote workstation, the DocuColor 40 CP saves a record of all jobs.
  • Page 79 O PREPARE FOR CALIBRATION 1. If this is the first time you are setting up the DocuColor 40 CP, complete Server Setup, Network Setup, and Printer Setup before you perform a calibration. Save Setup changes and boot up to Idle.

(To print a Configuration page from a DocuColor 40 CP at Idle status, press the Menu button to display the Functions screen, scroll down to select Print Pages, and select Configuration.)

    See page xv for information on Administrator access privileges. When the DocuColor 40 CP is installed, there is no password. If you do not create an Administrator password, users are not required to enter a password to modify the Setup.

    Enter the new password again exactly as before to verify that you have entered it correctly. If you make a mistake, you are prompted to enter the password again. There are other pages you can print from the Control Panel of the DocuColor 40 CP, including Test Page, Job Log, Control Panel Map, color charts, and font list.
