HOOD RELEASE
1 . Pull the release knob to unlatch the hood.
2. Pull the safety catch lever up and lift the
hood.

3. Hold the hood open with the support rod.
Before closing the hood, return the support
rod to its clip. This prevents rattles. L ower
the hood and make sure it locks into place.
WARNING!
• On vehicles equip ped with an automatic
transmission, do not release th e hood
latch until the selector lever has been se-
curely latched in P (Park) and the park-
ing brake has been set
fully.
Turn the
ignition off unless it is necessary to check
systems with the engine running.

• If the vehicle has a manual transmission
do not release the hood latch unless the
ignition is first turned
off,
the gear selec-
tor lever
is
placed in
1 (First),
and the
parking brake is firmly set.
• With a manual transmission, if it is neces-
sary to check beneath the hood with the
engine running, place the transmission
shift lever in N (Neutral) and set the park-
ing brake fully. Unexpected and possibly
sud den vehicle movement may occur
if
these precautions are not taken.
• To avoid the p ossibility of personal inju-
ry, you should always turn off the ignition
and remove the key before working un-
der the hood unless the particular proce-
dure specifically requires otherwise.

procedure requires you to run the engine
wh ile working under the hood, do not
permit any clothing, such as neckties or
_ handkerchiefs, near the engine or cool-
ing fan. They can become entangled in
moving parts and result in personal inju-
ry and d amage to the vehicle. Also re-
move watches, b racelets and rings.
