5. APPEARANCE CARE-REQUIRED OWNER'S MAINTENANCE

NOTE
It is
very
important
to
remember,
when us-
ing any
chemical
cleaner
or
polish,
to
always
follow
label
directions.
Read
all
warning
and
caution
statements wh ich appear on
the
label.
FINISH MAINTENANCE
i.
To
help
protect the
finish
from
rusti ng
and
deterioration,
wash
it
thoroughly
and
fre-
quently
with lukewarm
or
cold
water
(at
least
once
a month),
paying
particular
at-
tention
to the
removal of
any
accumula-
tion
of
salt,
dirt,
mud,
etc.
,
from the
underside
of
the
fenders.
Make
sure
the
drain
holes
in
the
lower edges
ot the
doors
and
rocker
panels are
kept clear.

Insects,
tar, tree
sap,
bird
droppings,
chemicals
from
industrial plants,
or
oth-
er
similar deposits
can
damage
your
Mazda
fi
nish if
left on.
Prompt
wash ing
may not
completely remove all
these
deposits. A
mild
veh icle
wash
soap,
safe
for
use on
painted
surfaces can
be used.
Do not
use
strong
soap, c
hemical
deter-
gents or
hot water
and do not
wash
th
e
vehicle in
direct
sunlight or
when
the
met-
al
is
warm.

After
soaping,
rinse
the vehicle
thorough-
ly
with
lukewarm
or cold
water.
Do not
allow the
soap to
dry
on
the
finish
.
In
ad-
dition,
the
painted
and bright
metal
ex·
terior
su
rfaces
of
your
vehicle should
be
coated
w
ith
a
good
quality
paste
wax.
BRIGHT METAL PARTS
MAINTENANCE
1. Use tar
remover, rather
than
knives
or
other
sharp
objects,
to
remove road tar
and
insects.

To
protect these
surfaces
from
corrosion,
apply
a coating
of
wax
or
c hrome
preser-
vative
and
rub to
a high polish
.

.
During
winter weather
or
in
coastal
areas,
cover
the
chromed
parts
with
a
some-
what heavier
coating
of
the
wax
or
preser-
vative.
If
necessary, coat
the
parts
with
non-corrosive petroleum
jelly
or another
protective compound
.

UNDERBODV MAINTENANCE
Underbody
Washing:
Your
vehicle
may
be
exposed
to
chemicals
used
for
road
de-ic
ing
,
dust
control,
etc.
These may
collect
on
the
underbody
of
your
vehicle.
If
not
removed,
they
can
accelerate
rusting and
deteriora-
tion.
Flush the
underbody
of
your
vehicle
with
lukewarm
or
cold
water
at the
end
of
each
winter, or
once
a
month
when possible.
