  • Page 23: Before You Start Using This Copier

Before You Start Using This Copier CHAPTER This chapter describes what you should know before using the copier, such as the names of its parts and how to turn on the power. About the Installation Location and Handling ........1-2 Installation Precautions .
  • Page 24: About The Installation Location And Handling

About the Installation Location and Handling Installation Precautions Avoid Installing the Copier in the Following Locations Avoid locations subject to extremes of temperature and humidity, whether low or high. For example, avoid installing the copier near water faucets, hot water heaters, humidifiers, air conditioners, heaters or stoves.
  • Page 25 Avoid poorly ventilated locations. The copier generates ozone while it is in use. However, the amount generated is not enough to affect the human body. Nevertheless, fumes may be an annoyance if you make a large amount of copies or use the copier for an extended period of time in a poorly ventilated room. It is recommended that you ventilate the room to make the working environment as comfortable as possible.
  • Page 26 Avoid exposing the copier to rapid changes in temperature. If the room in which the copier is installed is cold but rapidly heated, water droplets (condensation) may form inside the copier. This may result in a noticeable degradation in the quality of the copied image, the inability to properly scan an original, or the copies having no printed image at all.
  • Page 27: Select A Safe Power Supply

Select a Safe Power Supply Plug the copier into a 230 V AC outlet. Make sure that the power supply for the copier is safe and has a steady voltage. Do not plug other electrical equipment into the outlet to which the copier is connected. Do not plug the copier into a multi-plug power strip.
  • Page 28: Moving The Copier

Moving the Copier If you intend to move the copier, contact your service representative beforehand. Handling Precautions Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the copier. Some parts inside the copier are subject to high voltages and temperatures. Take adequate precaution when inspecting the inside of the copier. Do not carry out any inspections not described in this manual.
  • Page 29 If there is unusual noise or smoke, immediately turn the power switch off, unplug the power cord from the outlet, then call your service representative. Using the copier in this state may cause a fire or an electric shock. Also, avoid placing objects around the plug so that the copier can be unplugged whenever necessary.
  • Page 30 For safety reasons, turn off the power switch of the copier when it will not be used for a long period of time, such as at night. As an added safety measure, unplug the power cord when the copier will not be used for an extended period of time, such as over a long weekend.

  • Page 215 NOTE • You can staple a maximum of 30 sheets (80 g/m , 104.7 g/m ) using this function. • Note that the output bins on the stapler sorter may not be able to hold up to their maximum capacity because copied sheets may be output slightly curled depending on the copy exposure and take up more space than if they were flat.
  • Page 216 Press (Staple Position) as many times as needed to select the desired stapling position. NOTE • The position where insert stapling can be done varies depending on the paper size. - Corner stapling: A3, A4, A4R - Double stapling: A3, A4 - Single stapling: Cannot be selected.
  • Page 217: Limitations Of The Stapler Sorter

Limitations of the Stapler Sorter By making copies pass through the buffer pass unit, the stapler sorter prevents paper curl, which hampers sorting and stapling. However, depending on the copy exposure setting, the following situations can occur. Sorting or Staple-sorting Stops When making two-sided copies using the stack bypass, sorting may stop if the copies have markedly different copy exposures on each side of the paper.

Copies Are Not Stapled Together When the copy exposure is the cause Depending on the copy exposure, stapling may not be executed when copying on A4R-size paper even if the Staple-sort function is specified. When this happens, the following message is displayed.
