Spring Brake for Parking
DANGER
Never leave the vehicle without being
certain the parking brakes are set or that
other precautions are taken to prevent the
vehicle from rolling. Failure to do so can
result in serious personal injury or death.
DANGER
Before working on or inspecting a
vehicle, set the parking brakes, place the
transmission in neutral and block the
wheels. Failure to do so can result in
unexpected vehicle movement and can
cause serious personal injury or death.
The parking brake mechanism uses spring pressure as a separate power medium to apply the
service brakes on the driving axles. The parking brake is released by the same compressed
air source used to apply the service brakes. Since this brake is released by air pressure, the
system must be charged to at least 420 kPa (60 psi) before the parking brake may be released.
