7. Operation
Controller Overview: The unit controller is designed to be intuitive to use and allows functions and
alarms to be set by the installer/user. It also allows faults to be monitored and logged to enable easier
system fault diagnosis. The functions are set using the 4 buttons on the front of the controller, as per
below in Fig. 8:
Fig. 8
The unit can be connected to a BMS system through RS485
- Modbus. The controller has been tested using ModScan
software. Connection is via RS485 protocol connecting the
positive data wire to MODBUS Terminal A and the negative
data wire to MODBUS Terminal B on the controller, (Fig.9).
The controller has three menu choices upon setup and during servicing which allow control over
access to important parameter settings for the product. The three menus are: Engineers Menu: 315;
Customer Data Menu: 815; Data Logging Menu: 111. Details about parameter access levels for each
menu type can be found from page 12 of this booklet.
The controller is fully programmable providing automatic on/off control, service interval alerts, unit and
pump failure alarms and system data logs covering servicing, operational hours & pump activity.
The integrated Grundfos 10-200L VFS Flow Sensor constantly monitors water flow through the
unit and system water temperature and the pressure differential across the inlet and outlet of the
MagnaClean CMX Midi filter via the integrated Grundfos DPS Sensor, providing warning alerts and
alarms at two levels:
Grundfos VFS Flow Sensor
a) A warning alarm, alerting the persons responsible for monitoring the heating or chilled system that l/
min flow through the unit has reached its warning level and that a service visit is advised;
b) An alarm, alerting the persons responsible for monitoring the heating or chilled system that
flow through the unit has reached its alarm level and that a service visit is required. The pump is
deactivated and the controller will not clear until a new service date is entered.
Grundfos DPS Pressure Differential Sensor
a) A warning alarm, alerting the persons responsible for monitoring the heating or chilled system that
the installed cartridge filter is beginning to block and that a service visit is advised;
b) An alarm, alerting the persons responsible for monitoring the heating or chilled system that the
installed cartridge filter is full and needs changing. The pump is deactivated and the controller will
not clear until a new service date is entered.
System temperature is also constantly monitored by the VFS Flow Sensor, providing warning alarms
should the water temperature fall below or above the programmable low/high temperature warning
parameters.
A full list of controller parameters and their factory default values can be found on pages 12-15,
together with applicable warnings and alarms on page 18.
