Importance of Sky View

It is important to ensure that the best possible sky view is maintained throughout the period when the
Antenna and GPS fix icons are active.
If sky view to the Inmarsat satellite is poor, the Osprey remains active for longer while attempting to
acquire the service. If the condition deteriorates so that communication is not possible, the following
notification is displayed:
Select OK to acknowledge the message, then move the Osprey to a location with a clear sky view
(see Positioning and Wearing the Osprey on page 9).
Note: If an intermittent Inmarsat service persists while attempting to transmit user-generated, POI or
Alert messages, the extended operation of the Osprey will shorten battery life.

Switching Off the Osprey

To switch off the Osprey, unlock the keypad (if necessary), then press the On/Off key (
seconds.
Caution:
If you keep the On/Off key pressed for 10 seconds or more the Osprey performs a full
system reset (for more information refer to Resetting the Osprey on page 32).
Note: Alert mode is automatically cancelled by switching off the Osprey. For more information refer to
Using Alert Mode on page 28.

Logging In

Depending on how ViewPoint is configured, you may be prompted to enter a unique user ID, or a user
ID and PIN, at these times:
When you switch on or reset the Osprey.
At scheduled times.
On demand from the ViewPoint operator.
This login information allows the ViewPoint operator to confirm your identity, although you are not
prevented from operating the Osprey while the login credentials are being checked, or even if they
are incorrect.
