5Chapter 4 – Operating the Osprey

Introduction

This chapter contains detailed reference information and procedures covering every aspect of your
Osprey. Before using this chapter please ensure that your Osprey has been registered (see Chapter
2 – Registering the Osprey on page 4) and that you are familiar with the information given in Chapter
3 – Getting to Know the Osprey on page 9.

Charging the Battery

The Osprey's battery should ideally be charged using the supplied charger for the fastest possible
charge time. Alternatively, if the Uploader application is installed (see Appendix A), the Osprey can be
charged from the USB port of a computer.
You are recommended to charge the battery overnight (or equivalent) each day, using the charger
supplied and with the Osprey switched off. If the Osprey is left switched on while charging, longer or
more frequent charging periods may be needed to maintain battery charge, especially if the device is
being charged through a USB port of a computer. A full charge is obtained when the battery icon
shows four bars and stops flashing.

Using the Battery Charger

The supplied charger enables full charge to be reached in less time than by charging through a USB
port of a computer. To use this method, connect the Osprey to the charger using the USB lead
provided.
Caution:
Use of a charger other than the one supplied with the Osprey could result in damage or
impaired battery performance.
Using a charger, the charging time for a discharged battery is typically 6 hours. However, there may
also be a period of reconditioning if the battery is completely flat, which will require an extended
charging period.

Charging from the USB Port of a PC

With this method, connect the Osprey to the USB port of a laptop or desktop PC using the USB lead
provided.
Important: Do not connect the Osprey to the USB port until the Personal Tracker (PT) Uploader
application is installed, as described in Appendix A.
Note:
You may need to connect the Osprey to the same USB port that was used during the
installation of the PT Uploader application.
