Getting to Know
the Osprey
On/Off Key
Press for 2 seconds to switch the Osprey on or off. It also performs a full system
reset when pressed for approximately 10 seconds. The key is recessed to prevent
inadvertent operation. Refer to Switching On the Osprey on page 20 for more
information.
Left and Right Soft Keys
Two context-dependent keys are used to select menu options or acknowledge
notification messages.
Up/Down Keys
These keys are used to scroll through menu options or messages. A single press
scrolls one line at a time. Keeping the key pressed continually scrolls through until
you let go.
Back/Home Key
This key is used to go back through menus, one page at a time, until the Home
page is reached. It also steps directly to the Home page when pressed for more
than 2 seconds.
Point-of-interest Key
This key is used to send a specific 'Point-of-interest' (POI) position message to the
ViewPoint application, without waiting for the next scheduled communication
period. Refer to Sending Point-of-Interest Messages on page 27 for more
information.
Alert Key
Press for 2 seconds to activate Alert mode. The key has a protective rubber cover,
which should be left in place until it is required. Refer to Using Alert Mode on page 28
for more information.
About the Screen
The screen (Figure 4-5) displays status information and, in conjunction with the keypad, allows you to
select options. As well as text labels and messages, icons are also displayed.
The screen has adjustable brightness, and the keypad is normally backlit for use at night. You can
disable the backlighting for security purposes, if required. (For information on adjusting the screen
brightness and disabling backlighting refer to Changing the Osprey's Settings on page 29.)
Note: The time and date are automatically obtained from the satellite data; you do not need to set
them.
