transferred to Sent Items when ViewPoint acknowledges receipt and are also deleted when
you switch off the Osprey.
Sent Items: Archives messages that have been successfully transmitted from the Outbox
and acknowledged by ViewPoint. You can view and delete messages in Sent Items at any

The Outbox can contain a maximum of 8 messages, with the oldest message being deleted in favour

Understanding the Communication Cycles

To get the best performance from your Osprey, it is helpful to understand how and when the Osprey
communicates with ViewPoint. The sequence of operation is as follows:
1.
At the start of each scheduled communication period
acquiring both the Inmarsat and GPS satellites. During this time, the following icons appear
and flash:
Antenna and signal strength icon for the Inmarsat satellite. Three bars indicate
that optimal signal strength is being achieved. One bar may not be sufficient to
send or receive messages.
GPS icon.
2.
When the Inmarsat satellite has been acquired and a GPS position fix obtained, the icons
stop flashing and remain steady. The signal strength icon may fluctuate, even if you are in
the same position; this is normal.
A tracking position message is sent and/or any messages sent to you are received,
depending on the tracking and message receive intervals configured in ViewPoint.
3.
At the end of the communication period the antenna and GPS icons switch off. The Osprey
now remains dormant until the beginning of the next scheduled period to conserve battery
power.
1
The interval between scheduled communication periods is configurable in ViewPoint, to provide the
optimum balance between communication rate and battery life. The default is 8 minutes. The tracking
and message receive intervals can be different. The tracking interval can be within the range 2
minutes to 1 day (or off). The message receive interval can be within the range 2 to 32 minutes. You
