What is the Osprey Personal Tracker?
The Osprey Personal Tracker is a compact, lightweight device for personal tracking and two-way
messaging that uses satellite technology, as illustrated in Figure 2-1.
The Osprey uses Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites to obtain the operator's current position
and an Inmarsat satellite for the two-way text messaging system and tracking reports.
The Osprey allows a tracking application running on a remote computer to display and track the
operator's current position, and to communicate with the operator using selectable text messages.
The text messages can be customized to your organization's specific needs.
The tracking application available from EMS Global Tracking is "ViewPoint", which is a web-based
application that is accessed through a web browser running on a personal computer (PC). ViewPoint
is able to display the operator's current position on a map, send and receive messages and distribute
messages sent from one Osprey to other Ospreys in the same fleet.
The Osprey can be used from any location on the Earth's surface, except near the polar regions.
