Managing the Versalar 15000
Note: You can also restart a slot using the restart command as described in
the section
"Restarting a
Slot" on
page
5-6. Restarting a slot uses the current
image.
If the router is running and you issue a
or
command to reboot it, or if
boot
reset
the router crashes and recovers, it will boot using the current image and
configuration. In a redundant system with two SSPs, if only one SSP contains a
flash memory card, the SSP with the flash will become the primary SSP and the
SSP without the flash will become the secondary SSP.
Note: If an SSP fails, the secondary SSP is already loaded with the image and
configuration. If the new primary SSP does not have a flash card, you may
need to move the flash card to the primary SSP to utilize the file system. We
highly recommend that you have a flash card in both SSPs in a redundant
system for full SSP redundancy.
If the router power is off and then powered up, it will boot using the default image
and configuration files. In a redundant system with two SSPs, if only one SSP
contains a flash memory card, the SSP with the flash will become the primary SSP
and the SSP without the flash will become the secondary SSP. The SSP loads the
image and configuration and initiates software services.
In a redundant system with two SSPs, if the router is running and you issue a reset
to the primary SSP, the secondary SSP will take over and become the primary SSP
using the current image and configuration. The SSP being reset will reset using
the current image and configuration and will become the secondary SSP. In this
same system, if you reset the secondary SSP, it will simply reset using the current
image and configuration.
If you hot-swap an SSP or an IFP card, the STAT LED on the card blinks to
indicate that diagnostics are running. If the LED turns amber, it means that
diagnostics have failed, while a solid green light means that diagnostics have
passed. See Installing and Maintaining the Versalar Switch Router 15000 for
more details on SSP card and IFP card LEDs.
