TROUBLESHOOTING
If any movement is felt in the steering a front to back check should be undertaken. Check all
shaft connections and ensure moving parts are adequately greased. Check the fit of the rudder
within the rudder case. If this has any movement the Delron (plastic) shims in the rudder case
can be reduced and the case can be tightened. If for whatever reason there is a failure of the
autopilot system, the ram should be visually inspected to ensure it remains firmly attached to
the gearbox, before any further investigation takes place.

3.10 DAGGERBOARDS

Your boat is equipped with dual concealed retractable dagger boards. There are many benefits
of dagger boards including pointing ability and increased control of sailing performance by
being able to adjust your boats dynamics.
The daggerboards are raised and lowered by a 2-direction
winch. The pin location on the aft of the winch changes the
winches direction. You can check dagger depth by visually
looking in the deck access hatch.
The mechanisms for both the rudders and daggerboards are easily serviceable from the deck.
Check regularly for damage or wear on both these essential items.
USE OF DAGGERBOARDS
Dagger boards when down increase lateral resistance enabling you to point upwind better
when sailing. Their high aspect chord/length ratio also acts as a pivot increasing
maneuverability. Dagger boards partially or fully retracted when not needed decrease drag and
increase boat speed. In high performance craft asymmetric dagger settings are sometimes
practiced between windward and leeward hulls. Seawind recommends the dagger boards be
symmetrically maneuvered on this cruising catamaran to spread the strain on the ships
structure. Generally, dagger boards should be set as follows.
• Boat speeds below 7 knots - Fully down.
• Boat speeds above 7 knots - Half way.
• Reaching and downwind – 2/3 Up.
When underway the boards will be under load and can become quite difficult to adjust. It is
therefore best to luff up or bring the boat to a stall when adjusting board height.
