210 Driving and parking
▌Applying/releasing the electric parking brake
manually
Applying
Push handle 1.
#
The red ! indicator lamp lights up in the
Instrument Display.

The electric parking brake is only securely
applied if the red ! indicator lamp is lit
continuously.
Releasing
Switch on the vehicle.
#
Pull handle 1.
#
The red ! indicator lamp in the Instrument
Display goes out.
▌Emergency braking
Press and hold handle 1.
#
As long as the vehicle is in motion, the
Release parking brake
message is displayed
and the red ! indicator lamp flashes.
When the vehicle has been braked to a stand-
still, the electric parking brake is applied. The
red ! indicator lamp lights up in the Instru-
ment Display.
Information on collision detection on a parked
vehicle
If a collision is detected on the locked vehicle
when towing protection is switched on and colli-
sion detection is switched on, you will receive a
message in the multimedia system when the vehi-
cle is switched on.
You will receive information about the following
points:
The area of the vehicle that may have been
R
damaged.
The force of the impact.
R
The following situation can lead to inadvertent
activation:
The parked vehicle is moved, forexample, in a
R
two-storey garage.

Deactivate tow-away protection in order to
prevent inadvertent activation. If you deacti-
vate tow-away protection, collision detection
will also be deactivated.
System limits
Detection may be restricted in the following situa-
tions:
the vehicle is damaged without impact,
R
forexample, if an outside mirror is torn off or
the paint is damaged by a key
