Driving your vehicle
and the driver over steers to reenter
the roadway.
僅 In the event your vehicle leaves the
roadway, do not steer sharply.
Instead, slow down before pulling
back into the travel lanes.
NOTICE
僅 Do not drive in water if the level is
higher than the bottom of the vehicle.
僅 Check your brake condition once you
are out of mud or water. Depress the
brake pedal several times as you
move slowly until you feel normal
braking return.
僅 Shorten your scheduled maintenance
interval if you drive in offroad condi-
tions such as sand, mud or water
(Refer to "Maintenance under severe
usage conditions - Turbo Models (For
Smartstream G2.5 FR T-GDi)" on page
7-11.).
僅 Make sure that AWD vehicle is towed
by a flatbed tow truck.
For safe AWD operation
Before driving
僅 Make sure all passengers are wearing
seat belts.
僅 Sit upright and closer to the steering
wheel than usual. Adjust the steering
wheel to a position comfortable for
you to drive.
Driving on snow-covered or icy
roads
僅 Start off slowly by applying the accel-
erator pedal gently.
僅 Use snow tires or tire chains.

僅 Keep sufficient distance between your
vehicle and the vehicle in front of you.
僅 Use engine braking during decelera-
tion.
僅 Avoid speeding, rapid acceleration,
sudden brake applications, and sharp
turns to prevent skids.
Driving in sand or mud
僅 Maintain slow and constant speed.
僅 Use tire chains driving in mud if nec-
essary.
僅 Keep sufficient distance between your
vehicle and the vehicle in front of you.
僅 Reduce vehicle speed and always
check the road condition.
僅 Avoid speeding, rapid acceleration,
sudden brake applications, and sharp
turns to prevent getting stuck.
NOTICE
When the vehicle is stuck in snow, sand
or mud, place a non-slip material under
the drive wheels to provide traction OR
slowly spin the wheels in forward and
reverse directions which causes a rock-
ing motion that may free the vehicle.
Refer to "Rocking the vehicle" on page 5-
137. However, avoid running the engine
continuously at high rpm, which could
damage the AWD system.
NOTICE
僅 When putting the tire chains to the
tire, be sure to attach the chain to the
two rear wheels. In this case, drive
below 18 mph and minimize the driv-
ing distance. High-speed or long-term
driving with putting the tire chains
may cause malfunction or damage to
the four-wheel drive.
