Routine Maintenance tasks

The maintenance instructions below details all preventative maintenance activities to be carried out by
the Crew on a regular basis. Please add below tasks to applicable vessel maintenance system.

Check for any leakage around the Steering Gears

Actuator

inboard part.
Check surface temperatur of the equipment( pipes
Actuator
from pumps)
Check for abnormal vibrations/noises on the
Actuator
equipment.
Check that there are no leakage from Stuffing Box (if
Actuator
delivered by KM)
Check oil level in the Power Pack and top up if
Oil Tank
necessary
Standby
Start/stop standby pump
Pump
Duplex
Check filter blockage indicators, change filter element
Filter
if necessary.
Lubericate seals on Stuffing Box according to
Actuator
procedure (if delivered by KM). If using EAL grease,
lubricate every 2 weeks
Cleaning of Steering Gear unit and surroundings
Perform test of Steering Gear modes, Emergency
Steering and normal steering from all stations.
Test and verify electrical and mechanical limit switch
Actuator
function.
Perform test of all valves and IMO-functions to avoid
non-detectable system errors.
Check manoeuvring time according to SOLAS (30 to 0
Actuator
to 35 degree)
Actuator
Check for any paint work and damages
Controll
Make sure that all electrical indications push buttons
Panels
back light bulbs are ok
Check filter indicator, If filter alarm or the filter
indicator is in the red zone, replace the filter element.
Alarms
Function test of alarm system according to manual.
Coolers
Visual inspection of coolers (if applicable)
Collect sample of hydraulic oil from the actuator
Power
Replace filters
Pack
Steering
Check communication system between Steering Gear
Gear room
room and the bridge.
Electric
Megger test electric motors
Motor
Perform a visual check of all Electrical components,
El system
eartings, cable connections.
El system
Replace vibration dampers (if applicable)
