Read the spot color patch chart

Read the spot color patch chart
When you add or edit a spot color definition, you can print a patch chart to check how the set
CMYK values and small variations on these values appear on media. The printed colors and the
CMYK values of the patches give the best visual match to fine-tune the spot color for the given
media family.
A patch chart shows 39 patches that each have a variation of the set CMYK value. You print a
patch chart on the media that belong to the media family of the CMYK value of the spot color.
You print the patch chart on media that belong to the media family of the CMYK values. A patch
chart shows 39 patches with variations of CMYK values. The chosen step size determines the
degree of patch variations in percentages (1% - 20%).
Patch variations
• The patches are arranged in three
rows. All patches of a row all have the
same K-value. The middle row patch-
es represent the K-value of the spot
color.
• The K-value is decreased for the top
row and increased for the bottom row;
the step size determines the new K-
values.
• The patches within a row show varia-
tions in CMY values; the step size de-
termines the difference between two
adjacent patches.
Patches with a black cross
When a color value is equal to a color
value of an other patch, one of the patch-
es appear as a white patch with a black
cross.
