Learn about the print gap parameter

Print gap and printhead height
The printheads can move up and down in vertical direction above the print belt. The print gap is
the distance between the top of the sheet and the nozzle plate. The printhead height is the
distance between the printheads and the print belt.

Printhead height (H)
To calculate the printhead height for upcoming media sheets, the printer reads the print gap
parameters and the media thickness attribute of the upcoming media.
Print gap range
Media print modes have two print gap parameters: the minimum print gap and the maximum
print gap. Together they compose the print gap range.
Example:
The following example shows the print gap range of two different media. Media 1 has a large
print gap range: the media accepts all print gaps between 1200 μm and 1800 μm. Media 2 only
accepts a print gap of 1000 μm. When the print gap is set at 1200 μm to print media 1, the printer
must adjust the print gap to 1000 μm when printing media 2.

Media thickness
It depends on the print gap parameters and the media thickness of the upcoming media if the
printer needs to adjust its current printhead height.
Example:
The following example shows how the media thickness influences the required printhead height.
