Normal Communication Flow

Native Terminal Emulation Programmer's Guide
Chapter 5
The two basic types of commands are:
S Commands destined for the server or gateway
S Commands destined for the terminal
Assume the system is set to interactive mode (CMT2,1). In general, the
server or gateway can respond immediately to parameter or diagnostic
commands. Following are two examples:
Example 1
Host command:
DMV<cr>
Response:
QXSASYNC V2.10
Example 2
Host command:
?<cr>
Response:
IIIIIIIINNNNNNNN
The server or gateway accepts the terminal commands (with an OK<cr>)
and then sends them to the terminal. The server or gateway receives the
terminal response. After the host issues an R Read command (page 170),
the server or gateway can send the terminal response.
In general, a terminal response cannot be sent in response to a non-Read
command. An exception to this is the T (Repeat Response) command
(page 172), where the last server or gateway response is retransmitted to
the host. Following are two examples:
Example 1
Host command:
W000D/Hello World<cr>
Response:
OK<cr>
Example 2
Host command:
R<cr>
Response:
000KXYZ
